Kanako Iuchi pursues the model of scholar-in practice and has worked in the field of international development planning and disaster risk management for more than 25 years. She specializes in disaster management planning, urban and regional planning, and community development and cares about how communities can better live with intensifying natural hazard impacts. Her recent work centers on topics related to community relocation, governance, land use, and spatial form in slow- and sudden-onset environmental change in Indonesia, Japan, the US, and the Philippines.
