Karl KIM

Professor of Urban and Regional Planning, Executive Director, NDPTC, University of Hawaii

Dr. Karl Kim is Professor of Urban and Regional Planning at the University of Hawaii where he directs the Graduate Program in Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance. He holds appointments in the School of Architecture and the Center for Korean Studies. He previously served as Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at the University of Hawaii. He has received more than US$80 million in research and training grants. He is Editor of Transportation Research Interdisciplinary Perspectives (Elsevier) and is editing a 10 volume series on Disaster Risk Reduction and Resilience (Routledge). He is Executive Director of the National Disaster Preparedness Training Center (ndptc.hawaii.edu), a national, Congressionally-authorized center which develops training for first responders and emergency managers.
